Garment |
To have a better understanding of
what makes a garment, we would have to look at into textile. Textile by
definition is any cloth of fabric made by weaving or knitting or nonwoven. The process
of manufacturing a finished textile involves many steps and the usage of
various raw materials. Basically, fabrics are from yarns, and yarns are made by
fibers.
Fibers
Fiber (raw materials) is the smallest part of the fabric. They
are fine, hair – like substances, which are most basic component for making
textiles. There are both natural and manufactured man made fibers.
Yarns
Yarns are fibers that have been twisted together to form a
continuous thread-like strand. Yarns can also be monofilaments or multi
filaments
Fabrics
Fabrics are sheets of textile either made directly from
fibers (no woven) or yarns through the process of weaving and knitting. Companies
that manufacture fabrics are called textile mills
Dyeing and printing
Dyeing and printing are processes of applying color to make
the fabric more appealing. The process is performed in dye plants or print
plants and the companies are called dye houses (dryers) or print houses
(printers)
Finishing
Finishing is the process or an additional treatment applied
onto the fabrics before their final usage. These processes can be a mechanical
process or the application of special chemical to make the fabric according to
intended fabric properties.
